to those who ascertain that they could still be animals if given half a chance…

by: Frankie Metro

those of you

who would crowd the banks

of supreme silence

& contemplation

like filthy gulls

among the tradewinds-

looking for hands out

& something to peck @

w/ yr black beaks and

sooty crowns..

you who would invite other carrion to the banks

w/ yr incessant caccophony

blaming one for the other’s

lost meal

& who would shudder

when smoke reaches yr monocular vision..

I am the black crane

perched on the solemn

stone @ the reservoir-

the canal-

the lowly current

that leads only to

Gehenna-

while the most beautiful

birds imaginable

gather to watch me pick

@ dirty feathers.

It is futile

to attempt & clean

away all that

muck & trash

which has accumulated

in our plummage.

It

is-what it is-

& what it will

be.
